- Who is the math circle open to?
The math circle is currently accepting students who are in middle school regardless of whatever math class the student is in. However, we have limited space due to high demand.
- How long will the math circle continue?
Tentatively, the math circle is planned to continue for the entirety of the 2019-2020 school year until the summer break. However, there will be multiple holidays that may coincide with meeting dates during which there will not be a class.
- How do I join the math circle?
There is no registration process, but it is necessary that you contact the director at firstname.lastname@example.org prior to the meeting date in order to accurately create lesson plans. Once again, due to limited number of spots please fill out the following google form to reserve your seat: https://goo.gl/forms/GbvuJST3mI6jRXcw1. You can join the math circle ANYTIME.
- Will there be a test to get in and are how does the math circle cater to students of all skill levels?
There is no test to get in to the math circle, as it is open to all. The handout problems provided in class cover problems of a wide range of difficulty and thus students who are more adept in the topics may proceed on to the harder problems on the handout. We also group students by grade and so that should place students near similarly leveled students. However, many of our lectures will be based on concepts taught in previous lectures.
- How much does it cost?
We highly encourage a donation of $5 per class, as it would assist us in our efforts to donate to support worldwide education. In this way, the math circle functions not only to provide this service to the Contra Costa County, but also to external education.
6. How is the math circle conducted online and who is the instructor?
Using the Zoom online conferencing system, we have weekly meetings every Tuesday. Using interactive software, we are able to simulate a live whiteboard experience with live instruction with students being able to ask questions and answer any proposed by the instructor.
After signing up on the google form in question 3, you will be added to a mailing list if there is adequate space and a zoom link and password will be released to you which lets you join.
For details about the instructor: see the About Me section.
